Who are Heroic?

We are a family business based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our combined experience in music, engineering, research, sound-design, critical-listening and luthiery all help us to produce high quality, great sounding pickups with our own unique twists on the classic "flavors".

Research-based Design...

Heroic Tone designs start with a deep dive into what makes the best examples of classic pickups sound so good. We spend hundreds of hours researching and debunking myths to figure out what creates that sonic magic. We love to make pickups that sound and feel as authentic as possible within a vintage genre. A little of our own secret sauce is then mixed in, to further enhance the playing experience.

Finding the Mojo...

Our pickups are designed using industry standard scientific testing methods and many hours of subjective playing and listening through a range of amps, cabs and effects. We understand that although sound can be measured, it also has to be experienced. That's why the final say on our designs comes down to playability and "mojo".

Quality...

Everything we produce is individually hand made here in California to exacting standards and the highest specifications. Our hand-wound pickups possess an open, articulate and airy quality that is difficult (some say impossible) to achieve using mass production methods.
